Die Baureihe V 200.1 ist eine Weiterentwicklung der V 200.0. 1962 wurde die erste Lok an die Deutsche Bundesbahn geliefert. Ausgemustert wurden die letzten Exemplare beim Bw Oberhausen 1 zum Sommerfahrplan 1988. Die Universallok leistete 2.700 PS. Damit konnte sie die unterschiedlichsten Zuggattungen befördern. Legendär waren die Schnellzug-Einsätze auf der Vogelfluglinie oder auf der gebirgigen Schwarzwaldbahn sowie später auf der Emslandstrecke als Nachfolger der 043 mit den Erzzügen „Langer Heinrich“ Emden-Rheine.
